Five Reasons Halloween Lovers Should Embrace Spring

Happy Spring!  Wiccans and pagans celebrate the vernal equinox in the Northern hemisphere,  the time when light and dark are balanced again. Now, I know that sunshine and flowers don’t exactly scream Halloween, nor appease goth lovers, but if nothing else, we are moving one step closer to Halloween, and that’s cause for celebration.

Ostara

The Germanic goddess of spring and dawn returns. This girl knows how to party. She loves festivals, feasting, drinking, and sex!  Sex leads to babies and she is all about that. Ostara first showed up around the 8th century during festivals celebrating the vernal equinox. Details of actual worship are sketchy, but by the time the 19th century rolled around, she had become a permanent fixture in Germanic mythology. She represents fertility, healing, and rebirth, and is depicted as a radiant woman of childbearing years, wreathed or covered with blooming flowers, surrounded by rabbits, hares and other wildlife, and she brings absolute joy to those around her.  One cannot go wrong planting some seeds or painting some eggs in her honor.

Happy New Years!

It’s hard to believe that 2019 is already here. The holidays were such a blur. Just yesterday, we were celebrating Halloween, and now, it’s ten months away. If you’ve been stopping by weekly, I thank you for your support. If you’ve just stumbled upon this little blog for the first time, I welcome you.

I’m not big on resolutions, but I do anticipate to do bigger and better things than the previous year, so now, there’s only conjuring up the willpower to pull off the ideas that I have in my head. This year, you can expect more Halloween haikus, chilling stories, awesome horror movie lists, spooky artist showcases, and all the Halloween or spooky related stuff that we can dig up.

Halloween is bigger and more important than ever. The pagan ways are finding their roots again in a new generation of believers, and I believe Halloween is huge part of that revival. Halloweenophiles are growing in numbers and sharing their ideas with the rest of the world. Countries where Halloween didn’t previously exist, are now showing signs of celebrations. Plus, it’s the only holiday where fans like to keep the party going all year long. Every day is Halloween, we just go a little crazy in October.

I wish you all good fortune, peace and happiness this year. Keep believing in the magic of Halloween.

Season’s Greetings from Halloween Haiku

Happy holidays!  After the busy Halloween season, it was good to take a little break in November and gear up for December festivities. I’ve mentioned before that I think Christmas and Halloween are close cousins. They go hand-in-hand and mix well like peanut butter and jelly. Point in case, Tim Burton’s classic Nightmare Before Christmas. There’s plenty to do and see during the holidays that appeal to Halloweenophiles, so there’s no need to reject December or feel blue. Get creative! Haunted holidays is an awesome theme for decorations. Make Halloween themed Christmas cookies. Make a scary gingerbread house. Watch a scary Christmas movie, and who doesn’t love shopping for cool Halloween items to fill your gothic or black stocking up with? Lastly, there’s the iconic Krampus. The antithesis of jolly Santa Clause. He’s scarier than any Universal monster and twice as old.

This month, is basically a chance for second Halloween.  So, check back often. Halloween Haiku is going to have plenty of new haiku, fun stuff and cool ideas that our pumpkin-loving hearts will enjoy.

Have yourself a scary little Christmas and beware of Krampus!

9 Ideas to help you get over Halloween

It’s November 15th and you’re missing Halloween something awful. It went by so fast. You didn’t see or do half as much as you wanted and to top it off, Christmas creep invaded way earlier than expected.  Like it or not, once that calendar flips to November 1st, it’s as if someone pulls the brakes and brings the barreling steam-engine Halloween locomotive to a violent halt. I commiserate with you, my fellow Halloweenophiles. I feel your pain.  That’s why I came up with a couple of ideas that might help us ease our suffering.

  1. Encroach on November

Look at everyone putting their Christmas stuff up one month early. Well, then, no reason why we can’t take our decorations down one month late! Go ahead and leave your yard haunt in place for another month, and if anyone asks you, why?????  Just point to the nearest house covered with plastic santas and fake snow. Nuff said.

  1. Shop til you drop, or your credit card gets rejected

Even if the stores are devoid of Halloween items, they still are selling Halloween décor and items online, 50% off or more! The month after Halloween is greatest time to buy the decorations you couldn’t afford during October or stock up for next year’s monster bash.
